Resume and Interview Tips

Interview Tips

  1. Be prepared. Research the company and know the role.
  2. Dress appropriately to the environment. Look smart, clean and business-like but be comfortable.
  3. Know your own CV. You should be able to answer questions on your experience. Know dates, numbers facts and your feelings.
  4. Take a spare, clean copy of your CV.
  5. Speak clearly. Slow down if necessary. Tape yourself first and adapt your speech if necessary.
  6. Remember body language. Start positively with a firm handshake. Sit up. Don't fidget. Don't fiddle, drum fingers or swing legs. Avoid touching your face frequently. Move your head forward to show interest. Make eye contact. Smile!
  7. Listen! Hear the whole question/statement. Don't start mentally preparing your answer as the interviewer speaks. Don't interrupt.
  8. Be positive about yourself, your experience and your previous employers.
  9. End on a positive note, expressing your interest and talk about the challenges the role offers. Ask about what happens next and when you might hear from them. Thank the interviewer for his/her time.
